    Abstract

This experiment was aimed to monitor fruit flies imago population and its damage on chili farm and its parasitoid potency, as well, in South Sumatera middle land area (ca 500-600 m above sea level). Samples were taken in Arumantai, and Serambi Villages, Jarai District; Guru Agung and Gunung Liwat Vilages, Pajar Bulan District Regency of Lahat, South Sumatera Province. Fruit flies trapped in modified Steiner Type II traps were counted once a week. Damage fruit were kept in laboratory in order to wait the emergence of imago fruitflies and parasitoids. The severity of damage was determined. Fruit flies identified was Bactrocera dorsalis. The highest population was found on 16 weeks after planting (wap) red chili in Arumantai village i.e. 56.65 adults/trap/200 m2. Te severest percentage of damage found in Serambi Village at 18 wap was 25.56 %. Some spesies of parasitoids have been identified in Arumantai village. They were Opius sp., Psytallia fijiensis, P. incisi and P. fletcheri. Parasitism rates of parasitoids were Opius sp. 0.87 %, Psytallia fijiensis 4.86 %, P. incisi 29.96 % and P. fletcheri 6.74 %.
