      Abstract

      The objective of this research was to study the influence of rumen-rice chaff ash compost and NPK fertilizers on the performance of the soybean and some soil chemical characteristics of Ultisols. This study was conducted in a laboratory and a greenhouse using serial pots with soybean as an indicator plant. The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design with two factors, i.e: the dosage of rumen-rice chaff ash compost and NPK fertilizers. The composition of 70 percent rumen and 30 percent rice chaff ash incubated for two month as an organic fertilizer was used in this experiment. The compost of the rumen-rice chaff ash levels were 0. 5, 10, 15 and 20 ton ha-1, respectively. The levels of NPK fertilizers were 0, 0.5, and 1.0 times of that needed by soybean (50, 75, and 50 kg ha-1 urea, SP-36, and KCl, respectively). The observed parameters were organic C content, N-total, the availability of P and K in soil, and the growth and grain yield of soybean. The results showed that the addition of the rumen-rice chaff ash compost significantly influenced the growth and the yield of soybean, the organic C and the availability of P and K in soil. The dosage of the compost of rumen-rice chaff ash 15 and 20 ton ha-1 combined with NPK fertilizers tended to give an availability of P and K in soil and the growth and yield of soybean higher than another treatment
