      Abstract

      Forced convection heat transfer between air and an elliptical cylinder is given by solving the boundary layer equations. The aime of this study is to know the effect of aspect ratio of elliptical cylinder to forced convective heat transfer from surrounding. The boundary equation is solved numerically by finte volume method. The variation of aspect ratio of elliptical cylinder from the smallest ratio, ɛ = 0 to the largest one ɛ = 1. This variations is by reducing the minor axis of cylinder (majpr axis constant). The results show that at low aspect ratio, Nusselt number is small and when the ratio increase, Nusselt number increase significantly. The maximum local Nusselt number is occurred near the stagnation point of elliptical cylinder at low aspect ratios and when the aspect ratio increase the position of maximum local Nusselt number keeps away from stagnation point.
